What is your position or role in the DESI project?
I am a topical group co-lead for the 2pt+3pt key project
Where were you born?
In the south of Germany (Waiblingen)
Where do you live now?
In Edinburgh, Scotland
What do you do as part of DESI?
I am mainly coordinating the 2pt+3pt topical group discussions and data analysis. I am also attending the monthly institutional board meetings as the institutional board representative for the University of Edinburgh
What is the most interesting or exciting thing about your job?
Working with DESI data means that we are working with the by far best and most powerful galaxy survey datasets available right now. That means that after we worked on our data analysis setup, we apply it to DESI data and we are the first to see the new constraints on cosmological models. These constraints represent the best knowledge of humanity about the universe we live in, and being at the frontline for such explorations is very exciting.
Any advice for an aspiring scientist?
If you choose this career path, make sure that you make it worth your while. Choose problems that are important and personally meaningful.
What do you do for fun?
I play football (the European version of football) and go running (whenever the Scottish weather allows)
What excites/interests you most about DESI?
Seeing how the success of DESI managed to engage such a large group of people to devote their time to working with DESI and improving the analysis. DESI is, without a doubt, the most exciting cosmology experiment to be involved in right now.
